Joint Degree

Would you like to earn a Masters in Business Administration (MBA)? Do you think you have to earn an undergraduate degree in business first? Or that it will take an additional 6, 8 or 10 years? Many students think so, but with careful planning most students can earn their undergraduate degree and an MBA in as little as five years. Any non-business major at UTC, can earn:

  • A Bachelor's degree in any non-business field
  • A minor in Business Administration
  • An MBA degree

While students majoring in business have an edge on the time-line to earning their undergraduate degree in Business Administration and an MBA, students majoring outside of business can meet the same goals in five years.

Non-business majors participating in the College of Business’ “Joint Degree Program” can earn an undergraduate degree in the major of their choice, a minor in Business Administration and an MBA in five years. Even if your selected major does not require a minor or is already in the College of Business, you can still earn your undergraduate degree and an MBA in as little as five years! All it takes is a little planning, lots of motivation and UTC’s College of Business!

Working within their own undergraduate degree requirements, students will strategically utilize their general education requirements, degree requirements and electives to complete the Business Administration minor or take courses that will prepare them for an MBA. Successful completion of the Business Administration minor or select business courses may waive* some students up to 12 hours of required MBA course work.

Students are encouraged to meet with advisers under their program of study and within the College of Business to plan out their goals as early as possible. In some cases, students may need to request substitutions within their program or attend classes during summer sessions to achieve the five year goal.

IF YOU ARE MAJORING IN BUSINESS:

Successful completion of their undergraduate degree may allow students majoring in Business Administration to waive up to 12 hours of graduate course work for UTC’s MBA program. Students majoring in Business Administration are not required to complete a minor and are not eligible for a business minor.
