Fine Arts Center |
The department is housed in the Fine Arts Center, constructed in 1980. Students enjoy access to studios and classrooms that are clean and well equipped to provide them with the material skills needed to succeed in as visual artists and thinkers in today's competitive art market. The Cress Gallery of Art provides year-long opportunities for students to study original and varied work, and exhibitions are frequently held in concert with artists visiting the department. |
| Ceramics
Studio |
The ceramics studio is located on the first floor of the Fine Arts Center. The studio houses several electric potters wheels as well as a variety of slab building equipment and a total of five kilns for raku firing and for electric and high fire reduction firing. There are separate studios for glaze mixing, glazing, and upper division handbuilt ceramics. |
| Wood
and Metal Studios |
Located adjacent to the ceramics studio, the wood and metal studios house stationary floor equipment and a variety of hand and power tools which are available for wood and metal work. The studio also has facilities to support welding, and small and medium sized casting and fabrication. |
| Printmaking
Studio |
The print studio is comprised of two adjacent rooms which contain a number of presses and related equipment for print production. A variety of print techniques are supported, including intaglio, offset, lithography and screen-printing. |
| Painting
Studio |
Painting studios are housed in the carriage house, adjacent to the Fine Arts Center. There are six individual and four shared studio spaces in the carriage house which are distributed among the painting and drawing major at the upper division. |
| Graphics
Studio |
In addition to access to a variety of support facilities including the computer lab and darkroom, upper division students in the graphic design program are given a shared studio space on the second floor of the Fine Arts Center. |
| Graphics
Lab |
The graphics lab consists of sixteen iMac computers for graphic design production. InDesign, Photoshop, Freehand, and Quark Xpress are among a number of supported software applications. Two printers, one color and one black and white, are available for output. |
| Computer
Lab |
A Macintosh computer lab is available for all majors. Students can e-mail, browse the web, write and print papers, scan images and other research materials in this lab |
| Darkroom |
The department houses a small darkroom facility for processing and printing. |
| Slide
Library |
The slide library houses an extensive collection of slides for support of all art curriculum. The collection includes sections devoted to sculpture, painting, design, prints and art history. A collection of former student work is also kept on file. |
