University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Acceptable Use Practices (AUP)
(Adapted from UTK Acceptable Use Practices at http://oit.utk.edu/aup/)
approved by UTC Faculty Council, SGA, ERC (2002; updated 2005)
The UTC Information Technology Advisory Council (ITAC) has the responsibility for the creation and implementation of a cost-effective information infrastructure in which authorized users (e.g., students, faculty, staff, alumni, consultants, authorized affiliates, and approved outside clients) can create and share intellectual and administrative information. The principles described in this Acceptable Use Practices (AUP) document apply to all UTC computing and networking facilities that are provided for use for legitimate purposes relating to education, research, administration, and outreach activities of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. With respect to the lawful access of electronic information for research or instructional activities using the UTC Lupton Library technology resources, this AUP is supplemented but not superseded by the UTC Lupton Library’s Computing Resources Use Policy.
The policy for Use of Information Technology Resources at the University of Tennessee (UT) (UT System Fiscal Policy No. FI0805: Information Technology Resources) regulates use of the University's information technology resources within an atmosphere that encourages free exchange of ideas and an unwavering commitment to academic freedom. By adopting these practices, UTC recognizes that all members of the UTC community are bound by local, state, and federal laws relating to copyrights, privacy, security, and other statues regarding electronic media.
This document implements the general principles established by UT Fiscal Policy regarding appropriate use of equipment, software, and networks. The AUP recognizes the responsibility of faculty, staff, and system administrators to take the leadership role in implementing and ensuring that the UTC community honors UT Fiscal Policy No. FI0805. To the extent that this AUP is inconsistent with UT Fiscal Policy No. FI0805, the Policy supersedes this AUP.
Connection to the UTC network is a privilege based on adherence to this AUP. If abuses are detected, the ITAC or its designee(s) may suspend network connections. The connection may then be reestablished when the infraction has been verified to have been corrected. Appeals or "requests for waiver" may be directed to the chair of the UTC ITAC or the chief information officer.
The responsibilities and obligations according to this Acceptable Use Practices include the following sections.
