Many events will coincide with the 125th Anniversary Celebration. You are invited to join us at lectures, athletic events, commencements and much more to help us commemorate our history, our present and our future.

125th Anniversary Celebration Kickoff *
12:15-1:30 p.m. Chattanooga Room at the University Center
2:00 p.m. Arboretum Celebration outside Patten Chapel

Join us on March 1 at 12:15 in the Chattanooga Room of the University Center for the first big event in the 18th month celebration. Following brief remarks by Chancellor Roger Brown, we'll be serving up lots of food and fun until 1:30 p.m. And of course, you can't have a birthday party without presents.

Then at 2 p.m., the campus is invited to gather between Fletcher and Founders halls to commemorate our official designation as an arboretum.

Come out and learn more about how UTC is celebrating 125 years of achievement.

The George Conner Society Presents The Three Chancellors
Featuring Fred Obear, Bill Stacy and Roger Brown in a conversation.

UTC’s last three chancellors will gather on one stage to look at the past and future of university life in the Scenic City. Spanning 30 years, Chancellors Obear, Stacy and Brown have seen consistent growth in enrollment, the campus infrastructure, academic excellence and the strides taken in becoming a metropolitan campus. The evening is sure to be entertaining and informative with a chance for everyone to visit and reflect on what this institution means to all of us as we celebrate 125 years at UTC.

Embracing and Valuing Diversity *

7 p.m., Benwood Auditorium; Engineering Building
Dr. Earl Suttle, national motivational speaker, discusses the impact and importance of social relations on a person’s health. Dr. Suttle analyzes racial, ethnic and other human relations to show a wide range of health outcomes that result from how we interact with each other.  He says, “Your village goes beyond race and gender, so start building today.”

Littleton H. Mason Concert *
First Baptist Church/8th Street

An evening of gospel music from the UTC Gospel Choir named in honor of Dr. Littleton Mason, the first black assistant Dean of Students. Dr. Mason life was dedicated to helping students, the administration of the University and the community fulfill the "dream of equality."

UTC: Celebrating Variety Show

Celebrating Variety showcases the diverse student talents at UTC. Students will be connecting to the global community by raising funds and awareness about the disaster in Japan.

UTC Unity Conference *
UTC University Center
The UTC Unity Conference will host Tennessee high school students to increase college awareness for students of color and other under-represented populations. It stresses the importance of degree completion and provides essential information about UTC's programs.

Commemorating the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and honoring all who work to keep America safe.

12:15 p.m., Hayes Concert Hall, Fine Arts Center
Dr. Horace Traylor will deliver the keynote address. Dr. Traylor holds an important place in our campus history as the first African-American graduate. He served as president of Chattanooga City College at the time of the merger with University of Chattanooga and University of Tennessee and served as assistant to the chancellor following the merger. Dr. Traylor retired as president of the Miami Dade Community College Foundation and district vice president for institutional advancement at Miami Dade Community College.

The Spelling Bee started in 1991 as a way to both broaden awareness about adult illiteracy in our area and raise funds for adult education programs. Come cheer UTC’s team of spellers on to v-i-c-t-o-r-y.

UTC students will pay tribute to founders of various UTC African American student organizations such as the Black Student Association, NAACP, Littleton H. Mason Singers and the NPHC Greek organizations, as well as students who were the first to participate in student government, intercollegiate athletes, homecoming court and band.
