The thing I tell all my students:

"The pursuit of knowledge requires no justification."

B. A., The College of Wooster, 1979
M. S., Texas A & M University, TX, 1981
Ph. D. - 1989 University of Georgia, 1989

Research Interests:

1) Analysis of the partial reinforcement extinction effect in humans. I am interested in how the PREE can be used to understand aspects of human decision making, especially investment strategies and similar 'economic' conditions where there is inconsistent or variable feedback.

2) I am also interested in the phenomena surrounding the experiences related to unwanted sexual encounters. My students and I have begun a program of research that examines women's and men's reactions to various conditions.

3) The Barnum-effect is another phenomenon in which I am interested. Specifically, I am interested in how people react to 'bogus' statements given through various forms.

4) A newly-developed interest is in the ethics of psychological research. This work has me spending much time reading basic philosophical work on ethics as well as considering several empirical approaches that I can follow.

Teaching Responsibilities:

Introduction to Psychology Statistics Research Methods Psychometrics Psychophysiology Learning / Behavior Analysis, History and Schools of Psychology, Human Sexuality.
